This qualification is designed to meet the needs of workers who undertake waterproofing for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, construction waterproofing. Waterproofers apply membranes and special coatings to protect contents and the structural integrity of buildings.

Qualification Description:

State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.

Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement.

Pathway

Completion of the CPC31420 Certificate III in Construction Waterproofing provides learners with a nationally recognised trade qualification and supports entry into skilled employment or further study pathways within the construction and building sector, consistent with the CPC Training Package and the 2025 Standards for RTOs.

Qualification Requirements

Total number of units = 9

3 core units plus
6 elective units, of which:
3 elective units must be selected from Group A
for the remaining 3 elective units:
up to 3 units may be selected from Groups A and B
if not listed, up to 3 units may be selected from a Certificate IV or higher from this or any other currently endorsed Training Package qualification or accredited course.
Elective units must be relevant to the work environment and the qualification, maintain the integrity of the AQF alignment, and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
Chosen elective units must not include BSBPMG430 Undertake project work.

Entry Requirements:

To ensure learners can meet course outcomes and industry expectations, Level Up Education & Training Academy requires all applicants to meet the following:

Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of enrolment.
Completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent.
The student must have basic computer skills to use word processing software like Microsoft Word and use the internet effectively for research.
Demonstrated ability to read, write and calculate at a level sufficient to complete trade documentation and measurements.

English Language Proficiency (International Students) Requirements

Must provide evidence meeting Department of Home Affairs (DHA) requirements for a Student Visa (Subclass 500).
Have obtained an IELTS band score of at least 6 – or equivalent; or 5.5 where the test score is combined with at least 10 weeks ELICOS or 5.0 where the test score is combined with at least 20 weeks ELICOS;
Tests must have been completed within two years.
Even where visa exemptions apply (e.g. UK, USA, Canada, NZ, Ireland passport holders), applicants must still satisfy the RTO’s internal LLND and pre-training review requirements.

Have completed a Certificate IV, Diploma or Advanced Diploma level Training Package course in Australia; or,
Have completed any Certificate III or Certificate IV in ESL or EAL from the ESL/EAL Framework (VIC).
Have completed the ELICOS Course: General English – Intermediate Level

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements

Students must wear appropriate PPE including high-visibility clothing, steel-capped boots, safety glasses, gloves, long workwear, and hearing protection as required.
All PPE must comply with WHS standards and be maintained in serviceable condition.

Consistent with the qualification packaging rules, the units listed below will be delivered for this qualification. The code and title of each unit is provided as well as an indication of core and elective with pre requisites (if any).

Level Up Education & Training Academy recognises that learners may already possess skills, knowledge, or qualifications relevant to the CPC31020 Certificate III in Solid Plastering. The Academy ensures fair and transparent processes for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and Credit Transfer (CT) in accordance with the 2025 Standards for RTOs (Outcome Standards 1.6 and 1.7), and its Credit Transfer Policy & Procedure and Fees and Refund Policy & Procedure.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Learners are encouraged to apply for RPL prior to or immediately after formal enrolment but prior to the facilitated delivery of units to ensure that they do not miss any training opportunities offered should they be unsuccessful in the RPL process. Process overview is following:

Applicants are informed of RPL options during pre-enrolment.
An RPL Application Form and supporting evidence (e.g., work samples, portfolios, employment records) are submitted.
A qualified assessor evaluates the evidence against the unit requirements published on training.gov.au.
Where full competency is not demonstrated, gap training may be recommended.
RPL outcomes are recorded and communicated to the applicant in writing.

All RPL assessments are conducted under the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence, ensuring validity, reliability, fairness, and authenticity.

Credit Transfer (CT)

Credit Transfer is available for equivalent or identical units of competency previously completed through another Nationally Recognised Training provider.

Process overview:

Applicants provide verified Statements of Attainment or Transcripts.
The Academy verifies authenticity through the USI Registry or the issuing RTO.
Verified equivalent units are recorded as Credit Transfer and reflected in the student’s training plan.

Where Credit Transfer affects course duration, an updated Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) is issued in accordance with CRICOS requirements. International students must continue to meet the minimum 20 scheduled contact hours per week as required under the ESOS Act 2000 and National Code 2018.

Fees and Timeframes

Fees and processing timeframes for RPL and Credit Transfer applications are detailed in the Credit Transfer Policy & Procedure and Fees and Refund Policy & Procedure. These policies specify applicable fees, expected processing periods, and any adjustments to enrolment or course duration.

Appeals

Learners who wish to appeal an RPL or Credit Transfer decision may do so in accordance with the Academy’s Complaints and Appeals Policy and Procedure, which ensures transparency, procedural fairness, and timely resolution.

Units of Competency

The BSB40920 Certificate IV in Project Management Practice requires the completion of the following 25 Core (including 14 core and 11 electives).
